Just before midnight on July 19, 1952, radar at Washington National Airport tracked slow-moving blips over the capital. Andrews AFB saw them too — and a bright light that shot away. Jets scrambled; the targets vanished every time. A week later, they returned. The Air Force blamed the weather, but the case was still unsolved when Project Blue Book closed in 1969. Was it hot air — or something more?
